Anticipating and reacting quickly to epidemics: a consortium  won the Galien MedStartUp award
 
 
The Praesens Foundation, the Institut Pasteur, the Institut Pasteur de Dakar, University of Nebraska Medical Center and Twist Bioscience Corporation (NASDAQ: TWST) announced that the consortium is the winner of the Prix Galien MedStartUp award in the category: 'Best Collaboration Dedicated to the Developing or Underserved Populations Worldwide'. The consortium works together to develop, quantify and scale up a range of innovative solutions on the continent of Africa to ensure better preparedness and response to infectious disease outbreaks. This includes assays to rapidly identify pathogens developed for and by low- and middle-income countries that will benefit the communities that need it most.
 
Four young researchers from the Institut Pasteur International Network present at the 2019 PhD Student Ceremony
 
 
The 7th ceremony in honour of the young graduates who completed their science thesis at the Institut Pasteur during the 2018-2019 academic year was held on 13 December 2019. Since 2013, this ceremony has highlighted the excellence of the international scientific community at the Institut Pasteur. This year, four young researchers from the Institut Pasteur International Network were present among the young Pasteurian scientists. The Network's doctoral students come from European institutes and have carried out their work at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute (Greece), the Institut Pasteur de Lille (France), Sciensano (Belgium), Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology (Bulgaria) on various themes.
 
Southeast Asia faces the rise of emerging diseases : an exhibition on the ECOMORE II project
 
 
The Institut Pasteur, with support from Agence Française de Développement (AFD), has launched ECOMORE II. The project aims to broaden understanding of the specific changes causing the emergence of infectious diseases. It will also measure the impact of surveillance systems and heightened national and regional cooperation in response to these diseases. A photo exhibition dedicated to the project was held and inaugurated at the French Embassy in Laos at the end of November and at AFD headquarters in Paris on 18 December 2019.
 
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
5% Initiative: improving the malaria response in the greater Sahel and Central Africa regions
Closing date: January 20, 2020
 
 
Since 2018, the 5% Initiative has launched, each year, a call for proposals dedicated to operational research in order to improve interventions and update the available knowledge on the three diseases HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Submission deadline: February 7th, 2020
 
 
The Department of Technology and Scientific Programs (DTPS) through the Service of Scientific Incentive Programs (SPIS) and Department of International Affairs of the Institut Pasteur launch a new call for proposals: Inter-Institut Pasteur Concerted Actions (ACIP). ACIP call for proposals aims at supporting some inter-Pasteurian collaborative projects in the field of public health.

Submission deadline: February 7th, 2020
 
 
The Department of Technology and Scientific Programs (DTPS) through the Service of Scientific Incentive Programs (SPIS) and Department of International Affairs of the Institut Pasteur launch a new call for proposals: Transverse Research Programs (PTR). PTR call for proposals aims at supporting collaborative, interdisciplinary, innovative and ambitious research projects.
 
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Calmette & Yersin Internship Grant
Deadline for submission: March 2, 2020
 
 
The Calmette and Yersin program aims to promote mobility within the Institut Pasteur International Network. The annual call for applications for internship grants is now open. These fellowships allow scientists from the Institut Pasteur International Network (students, researchers and technicians), primarily from low-income countries, to do an internship at one of the member institutes in order to strengthen their skills in their field of research.

Review of the 51st Directors’ meeting of the Network in Yaounde, highlight of the end of the year
 
 
The 51st Directors’ meeting of the 32 member Institutes of the Institut Pasteur International Network took place at the Centre Pasteur in Cameroun (and for the first time in Cameroon), from 12 to 15 November 2019. On November 12, the Minister of Health, Dr. Malachie Manaouda, inaugurated a new building at the Centre Pasteur in Cameroon, financed by the State of Cameroon. On November 13, he presided over the gala for the 60th anniversary of the Centre Pasteur in Cameroun. A scientific symposium on the theme "Scientific advances for the control of infectious diseases" was organized on this occasion. Open days were also organized for the public and a cancer screening and prevention campaign took place from 18 to 22 November.
 
INSTITUTIONAL
UCR and the Institut Pasteur establish cooperation agreement to strengthen research
 
 
By signing a cooperation framework agreement, the rector of Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), Mr. Henning Jensen, and the President of the Institut Pasteur, Pr. Stewart Cole, established the basis for strengthening interdisciplinary scientific research and implementing joint projects between both institutions. The agreement include academic and research work on the areas of microbiology, infectious diseases, immunology and surveillance of emerging diseases, epidemiology and bacteriology, and other areas of mutual interest in the field of health.
 
The Institut Pasteur hosts an OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) collaborating center
 
 
The Institut Pasteur is now home to the World Organization for Animal Health Collaborating Center for the detection and identification in humans of emerging animal pathogens and development of tools for their diagnoses. It is hosted by the Environment and Infectious Risks Unit (led by Jean-Claude Manuguerra), with the Laboratory for Urgent Response to Biological Threats and the Pathogen Discovery Laboratory (led by Marc Eloit). This Collaborating Centre recommends, devises, and compares new laboratory testing methods and procedures for detecting and identifying emerging animal pathogens in humans.
